Missouri “Organizaed medicine in Missouri is continuing to try to make it a felony to use the title Doctor in a hospital.”

“According to the Pearson Report, Missouri is one of 7 states wtih statues or regulations prohibiting a nurse practitioner or other doctorally prepared health professional from using the title Doctor.”

Ohio “According to the Pearson Report, Ohio is one of 7 states wtih statues or regulations prohibiting a nurse practitioner or other doctorally prepared health professional from using the title Doctor.”

There is nothing in the Ohio nursing law/rules that prevents the use of the educational title “doctor or Dr.” by a nurse. Though the Board of Medicine prevents the use of the title Doctor, others currently do use the title, including PharmD, Psychologists, PT, OT, and others. The Ohio Board of OT/PT have a statement in support of using the title.

University of Washington Medical Center

A Consensus Statement made by the Advanced Registered Nurse Pratitioners of UWMC regarding the Use of the Title “Doctor” may surprise you. Made by th UWMC APRN Council – they say that doctorally prepared should not use the term doctor in practice.
