Purpose
The purpose of the presentation to demonstrate the application of the American Heart Association Practice Standards for EKG monitoring in a surgical unit. The evidence-based quality improvement project relates to improving quality by reducing the unintended consequences of inappropriate EKG monitoring including alarm fatigue, disruptions to care, patient satisfaction and cost of care.
